Assessment

It is recommended that at the beginning of occupational therapy services, a comprehensive assessment be completed. An assessment can also be completed to get a fuller picture of your child and challenges they might have and be given some strategies for home and school. An assessment will help you understand your child, how they perceive and respond to the world, how they interpret information from the world in their bodies and use that information to function, and their strengths and challenges. An assessment would involve a 15-30 minute phone screen, and then 2 hours of parent interview and child interaction, involving standardized measures and clinical observations and would be followed by a comprehensive report.
